A GOP state lawmaker said the U.S. should “get rid of” churches for being conservative “breeding grounds”

In response to the social media storm over his remarks, the lawmaker replied that his remarks had been “hyperbole” and were “not to be taken literally,” and that his listeners would “understand the humor and hyperbole of it,” but added that he stands behind his general critique of tax exempt conservative political organizations that masquerade as religious institutions “one hundred percent.”
